3 Springtime Tips for Car Maintenance for BMWs and Mercedes

June 25, 2018

The weather is starting to heat up in Denver, and this should affect how you care for your imported vehicle. Your import car service plan should change with the temperature to keep your BMW or Mercedes running as smoothly as possible. All the harsh mountain weather your car experienced this winter may have taken its toll, and it’s time to get your car back into peak shape. This is especially true if you plan on taking advantage of Denver’s beautiful summer weather by hitting the road for some extended trips. Follow these three tips to make sure your import car repair and service strategy will extend the life of your vehicle.

Check Tire Pressure and Rotate Tires

As temperatures fluctuate, so does the air pressure in your tire. It’s especially important to stay on top of this during the spring and fall when the weather is changing the most dramatically. If your tires aren’t properly inflated, your car will lose some of its handling capabilities and fuel efficiency. It can also make your tires wear out more quickly, and even lead to dangerous blowouts. Spring is also a great time to rotate the tires, which should be done every 5,000 miles or so to help them wear evenly.

Check Oil and Other Fluids

Most recommendations for oil change frequency are between 3,000 and 5,000 miles. If you put it off all winter, it’s best to get an oil change before logging all those summer miles. Regular oil changes are essential to promoting engine health. While you’re at it, check your other fluids as well, including windshield washing fluids, coolant, and brake fluids. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, take your car to a certified mechanic.

Replace Wiper Blades

Cold weather and icy windshields can shred the rubber part of your windshield wipers or lead to excessive wear. Worn or damaged windshield wipers can reduce visibility during spring and summer rains and lead to unnecessarily dangerous situations. Inspect your blades for signs of wear and tear, and have them replaced if need be.
